Back to Articles List Question:
Why can't I see PDF previews in MS Outlook?
Answer:
A 64 bit version of PDF-XChange Viewer/PDF-XChange Editor is being used in conjunction with a version of MS Outlook older than Office 2010.
MS Outlook versions prior to Office 2010 are available only in 32 bit - even when they are used on 64 bit PCs. This results in compatibility issues when 64 bit version of our products are used, in particular with the Shell Extensions provided for preview/search options. We have taken significant measures to resolve this issue - please see below.
Resolution:
The following steps re-register the DLLs and rectify the problem in most cases:
1. Uninstall all PDF-XChange applications.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Download and reinstall the latest versions of the products, which are available here.
If you would rather re-register the Shell Extensions without having to reinstall the products, detailed instructions are available here.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue then please contact us and with the following information:
- The version of Windows in use, and whether it is 32 or 64 bit.
- The version of MS Office in use.
- The name of the installer file used, for example PDFXVwer.zip
- The serial key details.
The fastest way to contact us is to use the 'Report a Problem' feature:
1. Click Help in the Menu Toolbar.
2. Click Report a Problem.
3. Enter the details of your case and report it to Tracker Software.

- Problems with Excel or Word or PDF Office 2010 files to open or does not want to open in Outlook 2010, check the 'run as Administrator' function.
Mare sure it runs in Normal mode and NOT Administrator. Go separately to Excel and Word and PDF as needed as disable it.
The run as administrator function was inexplicably enabled, probably through an update on our computers, and the errors were solved immediately after changing the mode. (I did a system restart too before testing.)(It took me 3 days to get behind this problem) - To post as a guest, your comment is unpublished.outlook not previewer yet 2013-office
